Sirena, The Story
In the ever-expanding urbanization of today, it’s getting increasingly difficult to find cities that give Mother Nature any breathing room. One of the places that still does, is located on the southern coast of Oaxaca state, Mexico where the Pacific Ocean hugs the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains. This magical paradise of Huatulco, Mexico encompasses nine pacific bays, approximately 36 beaches, and numerous inlets and coves, each with its own character and ecology. This is where the Sirena Coffee story begins.
In 2005, Huatulco was awarded the Green Globe International Certification identifying it as a sustainable touristic region because of its culture, environmentally friendly programs, and conservation of its natural resources. In the heart of this eco-destination surrounded by waterfalls and ravines, you will find the century old Finca El Pacífico, known for its organic coffee, the inspiration for our cafe by the sea, Sirena.
The Sirena at El Faro Project is located adjacent to the majestic lighthouse of Huatulco, is a lush beachfront parcel overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The property, which features exclusive access to an idyllic beach cove, has been developed with a focus on framing its exquisite natural beauty. In the construction of Sirena, entrepreneur and owner Abed Charamand has sought to make as minimal an environmental impact as possible—it is among his greatest priorities to seek balance and coexistence with the setting rather than attempt to alter or contain it. As such, this is an acknowledgement that one should never compete with the miracle of nature, but rather seek to celebrate its glory. Sirena Cafe offers an efficient and yet functional footprint from which to launch the dream, driven by a strong passion to promote local coffee growers and preserve their tradition, culture, and environment.
Sirena is deeply proud of the friendship and familial ties they have forged among the established regional fincas, a relationship going back two decades. Sirena has gratefully accepted the role to serve as the ambassadorship for these venerable operations, to not only bring their quality products to the greater world, but to also promote and give back to their meaningful efforts of running sustainable and eco-friendly operations.
Besides serving its delightful coffee, Sirena will provide visitors an immersive coffee experience, showcasing the entire process of production, from bean to cup. Additionally, the café will house a gallery showcasing the work of local artists, among which is Yuma Díaz, whose beautiful work graces the coffee packaging. Sirena will provide direct buying with direct change to its local community and people. For every coffee purchase or coffee experience, Sirena is committed to invest back into the local economy and to create opportunities for cultural growth and perseveration.
